AUXILIARY MEMBERS HIT MILESTONES Congratulations Gerri and Judy Congratulations to our latest 25-year members: Gerri Barmeister and Judy Thiesen for all your years of service to the Windom Area Hospital Auxiliary! In 2013, we realized our wealth in having many long-time members. Gerri and Judy are the 15th and 16th members we have recognized for having been a member for 25 years. The strength of the Auxiliary is in these members who have volunteered so faithfully over a long period of time. Gerri Burmeister Position: Treasurer Why did you join the Auxiliary? I was the CFO for the hospital at the time and thought someone should represent administration at the Auxiliary meetings. The hospital is very important to the communities we serve and the staff are important to its success. The goals of the Auxiliary are to enhance employee satisfaction and promote a positive patient experience. I have a huge appreciation for the Auxiliary members and the time they spend volunteering for Windom Area Health. Few hospitals still have Auxiliaries and I am thankful for ours. What is your favorite memory? The fall festival was a fun day. We saw a lot of people from the community and I enjoyed the camaraderie with the Auxiliary members working at the event. I worked in the kitchen with Lora Sacks. Judy Thiesen Position: Crafts chairperson at the Fall Festival Why did you join the Auxiliary? Helen Evers convinced me to join. She told me they did so much and I enjoyed going to the meetings. What is your favorite memory? I enjoyed bringing people to different places in the hospital. Instead of someone pointing to where a patient should go or giving directions. I liked walking them to their destination. You get to know people while you walk. About the Auxiliary The Windom Area Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization whose sole purpose is to support Windom Area Health. The Auxiliary has played a key role at the hospital since 1974 when it was re- established. What does the Auxiliary do? The Auxiliary's primary task is to raise money to purchase hospital equipment. We donate profit from various fundraisers-managing the hospital lobby Gift Center, hosting seasonal craft and bake sales, selling raffle tickets at the county fair, and selling fresh pecans. From 1974 to 2022, the Auxiliary has donated over $295,388 to the hospital! Funds have purchased newborn screening equipment, patient transport carts, and surgical chairs, to name a few. The Auxiliary is dedicated to making sure all feel welcomed at Windom Area Health. From serving as greeters and lobby hostesses, knitting hats, making holiday stockings for newborns, to uplifting Windom Area Health staff and Windom Ambulance Service members, the Auxiliary is the hospital's heart. Join the Auxiliary Team! New members are always welcome! Membership is for any person interested in Windom Area Health... which means both women and men! Membership dues are $20/year for both Active and Associate members. ACTIVE members are people who attend our monthly meetings and volunteer at most events. Active members are the backbone of the Auxiliary ASSOCIATE members are people who support the Auxiliary mainly through dues and donations, but don't wish to attend the monthly meetings. Becoming an associate member is a great way for anyone and everyone to financially support the work of the Auxiliary, and in turn the hospital The Auxiliary is great way to meet new people while serving our community. Meetings are open to everyone and are held on the second Monday of the month at 6:00 pm at Windom Area Health.
