COTTONWOOD COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT SUPERVISOR ELECTION Individuals concerned about water quality and soil erosion in Cottonwood County should consider filing to run for the position of Supervisor of the Cottonwood Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). Candidate Qualifications Minnesota law states that candidates for state and local offices must be eligible voters and at least 21-years-old when assuming office. They must have resided in their district for at least 30 days before the general election and have no other affidavit on file for any other elected office. Filing Period The filing period opens May 19, 2020 and closes at 5:00 p.m. on June 2, 2020. Filing Location Candidates for SWCD Supervisor file an affidavit of candidacy with the Cottonwood County Auditor located at the Cottonwood County Courthouse, Windom, MN. Filing Fee Candidates must pay a filing fee ($20) at the time of filing their affidavit of candidacy. However, candidates may file a petition in place of the filing fee. Nominating Districts Up for Election This year, the SWCD has three Supervisor positions up for election. SWCD candidates appear on the ballot for the general election, which will take place November 3, 2020. Candidates are elected county-wide but must reside in one of the nomination districts up for election. These include Nominating District II-Lakeside, Carson and Delton Townships, City of Bingham Lake and Delft; Nominating District IV- Springfield, Amo, Storden and Highwater Townships and the City of Storden; Nominating District V-Southbrook, RosehillI, Westbrook and Ann Townships and City of Westbrook.
