Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic Pederson, Jensen are local Vet Clinic's newest additions S pend enough time at the Cot tonwood Veterinary Clinic and you are sure to see the smiling faces of Dr. Ramsey Pederson and Brooke Jensen. Ramsey, a veterinarian, and Brooke, a veterinary technician, are the Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic's two newest employees. Both recent college graduates started on June 17. They will tell you the first few weeks have been busy and enjoyable. Brooke received her degree from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. Ramsey has a bach- elor's degree in animal science from the University of Minnesotal and also received her graduate and veterinary school education at the U of M. Ramsey and her husband. Growing up. Ramsey and her brother, Dalton, were very involved in the family's beef and crop farm. "One time, I missed the bus to school because I wanted to watch a cesarean section on a cow," Ramsey said with a laugh. "Mom wasn't very happy with me miss- ing the bus." Growing up in that environ- ment, she became increasingly interested in the medical side of things, wanting to learn why cer tain things happen. As she worked toward her de gree, Ramsey worked as a veteri nary assistant at Park Grove Pet Hospital in Cottage Grove. And in her second and third years of veterinary school, she worked at Piper Equine Hospital, which is a large animal hospital. "I chose the Cottonwood Vet- erinary Clinic because I feel it is strong in both small and large animal areas," Ramsey said. "And, it has different experience levels, from seasoned veterans to one with two or three years of experi- ence. Also, I like everyone here. It is very family-oriented." Brooke Jensen Meanwhile Brooke loves the variety she found at Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic. "I like that we get to do a little of everything." said Brooke, the daughter of Lonny and Elaine Jen- sen of Sanborn. "And, I like that everyone is so good at helping me and helping to advance my skills." Like Ramsey, Brooke has always had an interest in animals. She grew up with a cow-calf operation. "We had every animal under the sun," Brooke added with a grin. "When I was 12 or 13, Mom let me put my hands inside a cow, where the calf was breeched. It was back- ward. "I got to put the chains on and help with it. The whole experience was life-changing for me. "My godfather is a veterinarian and I got to help him often." She added that one of her most memorable experiences was help- ing him with an eye enucleation on a cow.
