Windom Area Health's Medical Office Building Project: Why Now? WINDOM, Minn. With the announcement of the upcoming Medical Office Building at Windom Area Health, there has been a great amount of community interest and questions. To provide transparency, here are some of the most frequently asked questions in regards to the project. Why this project? Due to increased outpatient services, we have outgrown our space, preventing us from bringing in new providers and service lines to meet the community's needs. .Is it using taxpayer dollars? No, there will be no taxpayer dollars involved in the Medical Office Build- ing project. While we are owned by the City of Win- dom, we operate as a financially independent entity and will be financing this project on our own. We will provide $10 million of financing from cash reserves and approximately $20 million through a city-issued gross revenue bond on a 20-year term. We are in a strong financial position to make payments. What is a "bond"? Bonds are a type of debt that cities, governments, and companies use in financing projects. Bonds work much like a loan or mortgage that carry an interest rate and term. Bonds are very common in funding large capital projects like schools, highways, and hospitals. What will happen to the current clinics? Win- dom Family Medical Center is temporarily relocating to a space inside Windom Area Health during con- struction, set to open Tuesday, September 19. Sanford Clinics of Windom have relocated to their downtown location. Upon completion of the construction, all San- ford Clinics will be consolidated to the new space. Will there be changes to parking to accom- modate the growth in services? Yes, the parking lot will be expanded on the North and West sides of the campus. Additional parking spaces will be added for improved traffic flow. If any members of the public wish to voice questions, concerns, or support for the project, the City Council is holding a Public Hearing on Tuesday, September 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. "It is important that those who support the project and the growth of the hospital also attend the Public Hearing and make the council aware of your support," says Shelby Medina, CEO of Windom Area Health, "Otherwise, the only voices they will hear will be the negative voices. Decisions that are made at this meeting will have a direct impact on the hospital's ability to grow and secure its position as a strong and independent hospital." -PAID ADVERTISEMENT- Windom Area Health's Medical Office Building Project : Why Now ?
