Treatment includes many processes to insure waste and chemicals are removed according to State standards. Following treatment, the remaining water is discharged into the Des Moines River. In 2020 the plant treated 429 million gallons. This averages nearly 1.2 million gallons per day. Infiltration and storm water accounted for 25% of the volume. Windom provides treatment for the City of Bingham Lake and lowa Regional System (Fish Lake). Just over 50% of the wastewater comes from commercial customers.
