Message to the Citizens of Windom CONCERNING SNOW AND ICE REMOVAL Many Windom residents use public sidewalks on a daily, year-round basis. Shoppers, workers, postal workers and delivery people make use of our sidewalks every day. Some of this usage occurs under adverse situations such as paper delivery in the dark and emergency medical, police and fire protection on a 24-hour basis regardless of weather conditions. Snow and ice that is not promptly removed increases the risk of liability and creates a potentially hazardous situation. The City of Windom requires that property owners remove all snow and ice from the complete width and length of any public sidewalk abutting their property within twelve (12) hours after said snow and ice has ceased to be deposited. Depositing snow into city streets is prohibited. This will reduce the risk of liability and help alleviate the dangerous conditions. The City will remove snow and ice from public sidewalks in the event that the property owner does not do it within the specified time. Costs for this removal shall be certified to the abutting property owner for collection with the real estate taxes as other specified assessments are certified and collected. Let's all be good neighbors.
