Now Collage Saint James, what was originally The Country Collage began in 1981 when five women saw the need for a gift shop in St. James. The boutique shop sold consigned items, antiques, needle-art supplies and even microwave ovens. The founding women selected the name "Collage” because of the wide array of items they sold. You can watch a video about the County Collage here.

The 5 women brought $200.00 each for purchases for their initial trip to gift market. Quickly growing, the store became the go-to spot for St. James and the surrounding area to find unique, quality home decor, greeting cards, educational today and a large variety of gifts. Over the years, one partner retired, one moved away and two others left to pursue different ventures. Jeanne Miest, the final founding member, became the sole proprietor of the gift shop in 1998. Along with her husband John, Miest ran the store with the help of Cathy Ness and Cindy Mace for 35 years. 

Karen Altenburg purchased the Collage on January 1, 2017. Altenburg lived in Lewisville for 35 years, and had visited Country Collage multiple times. Three and a half years ago Altenburg and her husband moved just south of St. James, and she became a regular customer at the Country Collage store. Now, Karen runs the store full-time and enjoys interacting with her regular customers.
