MOUNTAIN LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL REFERENDUM information THE PROPOSAL Revoke the district's current operating levy ($1,331.17) and replace it with a new operating levy authority ($1,911) for 10 years. This will be an increase of $579.83 per pupil. FARMLAND Will my farmland be tased? No. Operating levy taxes do not apply to agricultural land, buildings or seasonal recreational property (eg, cabins). Farmers will be taxed on their house, garige and one acre of land. THE REASONS Keep Class Sizes Small MLPS averages 38 students per grade. Instead of creating one large class, we divide that larger group into two smaller classrooms of 19 students cach. Students and families benefit from smaller class sizes. Hire and Retain Excellent Staff Additional funding allows us to hire experienced teachers and support staff who value working with our students and familles. Support Diversity Operating Referendum dollars meet the needs of our diverse student community. In the past two years, we've hired 4 full- time and 5 part-time teachers to support our diverse student groups. MLPS is higher than statewide averages in the following groups: *Total minority student groups (eg. Asian and Hispanic) *Special education students English language leamers Free and reduced price lunch students Keep Pace with Inflation Everything costs more these days (e. energy, transportation, utilities, food, manufacturing, construction, labor costs, etc).
