About Us

Southern Minnesota Construction boasts nearly a century of success in the Midwest construction industry. A leader in asphalt surfacing, excavation, site preparation, and rock products, SMC has received multiple safety and road building awards.

Since its inception in 1914, Southern Minnesota Construction, then called Lundin Brothers Construction, has expanded through several acquisitions. In 2005, SMC joined Oldcastle Materials, Inc., the leading vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, and paving services in the United States. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Oldcastle Materials employs 17,500 people at more than 1,200 locations in 44 states.

OMG Midwest, a region of Oldcastle Materials, is comprised of ten construction material suppliers throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois, and South Dakota. As an operating company of OMG Midwest, SMC maintains a local identity which allows us to gain market position while utilizing the technology, best practices, talent pool, purchasing power, and financial resources of a large organization. Because of this vertical integration, a project can be completed from start to finish by working together with our sister companies, APAC, Cessford Construction Company, Des Moines Asphalt and Paving, Hallett Materials, Mallard Sand & Gravel, New Ulm Quartzite Quarries, OMNI Engineering, and Tri-State Paving.
