Some are married, some are single, some are grandparents, some are parents with young children, adolescents or grown children, some hope to eventually adopt children. The characteristic foster parents have in common is a love for children, and ability to commit to challenges and a desire to make a difference in children's lives. Foster parents provide a safe and temporary home for children when they cannot remain with their birth families. Most children in need of out-of-home care have been abused and neglected.
