POET EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT A DECADE OF DEDICATION AT POET: CALVIN FLEMING For Calvin Fleming, working at POET isn't just a job-it's a way of life rooted in teamwork, grit, and a passion for growth. Calvin, a Material Handler II, has been with POET Bioprocessing - Bingham Lake for over ten years, but his journey started long before he clocked his first shift. Originally from Madelia, Minnesota, Calvin grew up on a farm and developed a strong work ethic early in life. After his family stepped away from farming, both of his parents joined POET, and eventually encouraged Calvin to apply as well. "I hit it off with my boss right away," Calvin recalled. "They knew I was a farm kid who had been around machinery, so it was a natural fit." Since day one, Calvin has served in the material handling role, where no two days are quite the same. From loading feed and syrup trucks to transferring bioethanol and performing light maintenance, Calvin enjoys the fast pace and variety. "We rotate responsibilities each week to keep our skills fresh," he said. "It's a team effort, and we all stay on the same page." Calvin credits the close-knit team at Bingham Lake as one of his favorite parts of the job. "We're like family," he said. "We get along really well while on-site, and do things outside of work together too. That kind of connection makes work even more meaningful." He's proud of the plant's "never satisfied" culture-where even on good days, the team is always looking to improve. "POET is hands-on and always striving to do better," Calvin said. "When we hit our goals, we celebrate. We make it a priority to take time to appreciate the wins." Challenges come with the job, but Calvin views them as opportunities. "Even when things go wrong, it's a chance to learn," he said. "That's how you grow here." One of Calvin's proudest memories was working alongside his dad on a challenging maintenance project early in his career. "It was a unique problem and we didn't know how to do it at first, but we figured it out together," he said. "That day stuck with me." Outside work, Calvin enjoys the outdoors, building a lake house with his parents, and relaxing with movies and video games. As he looks to the future, Calvin is most excited about POET's mission to improve the world. "I appreciate POET's mentality of trying to make the world a better place. Whether it be through scholarships, volunteering, Seeds of Change, or the bioproducts we make. One of the things I love about POET is we're willing to go out and work hard to help change the world." For Calvin Fleming, POET isn't just a workplace--it's a place to grow, give back, and be part of a team that's got your back. POET TO LEARN MORE ABOUT POET, VISIT POET.COM/BINGHAMLAKE.
